Knocking-In

All new cricket bats must be ‘Knocked-in’ before they are ready for play on the field.

1 hour knocking-in service must be booked by calling 020 811 8103.

All cricket bats are pressed by the manufacturer, however, ‘Knocking in’ is a MUST.
This process compresses together the fibre of the willow in the face and edges, thus protecting the bat against the impact of the ball.
Effective ‘Knocking in’ will significantly improve the performance and increase the lifespan of the bat.

Benefits of ‘Knocking-in’ a cricket bat:

  • Reduces the risk of bat snapping.
  • Allows the soft fibre to strike a hard cricket ball.
  • ‘Knocking in’ a bat fills in the gaps between the fibre.

Bat pressing

Repressing a cricket bat refers to the process of compressing the wood of the bat to make it stronger and more durable.

Here are a few reasons why you might repress your cricket bat:

  1. Increase Power and Performance: Repressing helps to compress the fibres of the wood, which can improve the power and performance of the bat. A well-repressed bat often has a higher rebound effect and generates more power when striking the ball.
  2. Prevent Damage: Repressing helps prevent the bat from cracking or becoming damaged when it’s used in play. It can help to solidify the surface and strengthen the bat, particularly for bats that are made from softer willow wood.
  3. Extend Bat Life: By repressing the bat, you can extend its lifespan. Over time, regular use can cause the wood to become softer and lose its bounce, so repressing can rejuvenate the bat, making it more resilient.
  4. Enhance Durability: A repressing process can help create a more durable surface by eliminating weak spots in the wood, ensuring that the bat performs consistently over time.
  5. Restore Performance: For cricket bats that have been used extensively, repressing can help restore some of the initial pop or performance that might have diminished after prolonged use.
